Healthy Banana Muffins with Maple Syrup Drizzle

Healthy Banana Muffins with Maple Syrup Drizzle

I looooovvvveeee baked goods. And if they’re (mostly) guilt free, all the better! These honestly taste just like they’re made with heaps of sugar and flour and butter (mmm… butter) and they aren’t. These should be called Master of Deception Muffins. Now the key really is the maple syrup drizzle, which is pretty sugary, so you can omit that if you want but I recommend against the omission. Also, the drizzle is a relatively little amount so go for it (you’re already saving so many calories!).

Friday Night Movie Recommendation: The Odd Couple 2

Friday Night Movie Recommendation: The Odd Couple 2

Ok, I know. You’re asking yourself if I know what the heck I’m talking  about. I mean, the Odd Couple 2? Really? Yes, really! This movie just so happens to be one of my all time favourite comedies. That being said, my taste in humour differs a lot from other people’s tastes.  I’m not a huge fan of The Simpsons, Family Guy or South Park. I don’t love Anchorman (I like it but I don’t love it) or Half Baked or Zoolander. I’m all about the humour of real situations, real people, and relatable scenarios. Bad days, worse hair, awkward encounters, and bromances are a perfect combination to get me in stitches.

DIY Barn Board Shelf

DIY Barn Board Shelf

I’ve been doing a lot of food posts this week and not so much DIY. It’s hard when I eat every day and DIY projects take a lot longer (usually).  Keep posted though, because I have some super awesome, out-of-this-world-cool, projects in the works and I promise that they will be worth the wait. They’re great. For real. This project was one of the easier ones. All you need is barn board and brackets. Lucky for me, I have a wonderful aunt who happened to have some barn board laying around (yay family!).

Wednesday Night Kitchen Raid: Actifry Mexican Chicken

Wednesday Night Kitchen Raid: Actifry Mexican Chicken

Another easy peasy Actifry recipe. I am falling more and more in love with this machine every day. I was considering what to make for dinner and didn’t really want to stand over the oven because I was busy multi-tasking and then… blam0! It hit me. Why not pop the food in the Actifry?! Brilliant.

Ham Roll Ups

Ham Roll Ups

This is another family recipe, straight from my mom. It’s always a crowd pleaser and it is oh-so-easy. There’s also not much to it so this is my go-to when I don’t have much time. Let’s get to it!

Gramma’s Surprise Spread

Gramma’s Surprise Spread

This is a recipe straight from Gramma, so you know it’s going to be good. I don’t know what it is about grandmothers, but everything they touch is gold. The name could use a little work; anything you eat that has the word “Surprise” in it makes me a little hesitant but Gramma named it and who am I to change it?

This is a perfect dish to bring to a party. It travels well, is easy to make and it’s a crowd pleaser. It’s always one of the first things to go. This is the original recipe, straight from the source. I’ve modified it a little (I know… how could I!? Sorry Gramma), mostly because some people are a little iffy about shrimp and the seafood sauce on it’s own can be strong for some people.

Oscar Predictions

Oscar Predictions

The most glamorous day of the year has arrived! I have always loved the Oscars and this year is no different. There was a time not so long ago that I dreamed of being an actress and imagined myself walking the red carpet in a beautiful dress. I tried it out and the industry was not for me. I still hold on to the idea that one day I might go back to it.Oscars

That being said, I hold the Academy Awards very dear to my heart even though they are political, the best actor doesn’t always win (clearly, or Leonardo DiCaprio would have won at least one by now), and fewer and fewer people tune in every year.

This year, I’ve watched a good number of the nominees so I feel pretty prepared. I’ve seen Boyhood, American Sniper, Birdman, Foxcatcher, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Gone Girl, Imitation Game, The Tale of Princess Kaguya, Interstellar, and a bunch of the other films that were only nominated once. Actifry Chickpeas

Actifry Chickpeas

wpid-20150217_201156.jpgI’ve fallen in love with chickpeas. I had never actually had them until about a year ago when I was trying to find some healthy snack alternatives. They are delicious! And there are so many different ways to prepare them. This post goes into how to serve them in my favourite way but I will be doing another post at some point with variations.  This is another Actifry recipe but you can bake these in the oven too. The Actifry is easier and more fun but if you don’t have one, you don’t have one. Here we go! Read more

Friday Night Movie Recommendation: After the Dark

Friday Night Movie Recommendation: After the Dark

AftertheDarkAfter the Dark (originally titled The Philosophers) is a great mystery thriller with a truly unique premise.  For their last class, twenty philosophy students in an Indonesian school have been put to the task of deciding which ten of them should be saved in a hypothetical, post apocalyptic scenario. The students are randomly assigned different occupations, will be the only survivors after living in a bunker for a year and will have to restart civilization as we know it. Who do they pick? Who will have to die? How do you make that kind of decision? How do you weigh the value of a musician over a structural engineer? Should it be strictly utilitarian or should emotion be part of the decision?  These are the kind of questions that these students ask themselves as they go through a couple different iterations of the same scenario.  Read more

Dining Room Set Makeover Part 4

PAINTING IS DONE! Today we did the final coat of white on the base of the table and the second coat of grey on the table top. And, if I don’t mind saying so myself, it looks fan-freaking-tastic. It is sooooooo beautiful. I feel unreasonably emotionally attached to it.

A couple notes now that the painting portion is done: Read more
