Guest DIY | Cable Organizer

Today I’ve got a special treat for you guys. I have a DIY project that comes from a very close friend of mine. She was working on it this weekend and she was kind enough to send me some pictures so I could share it with you guys.

I am always thrilled to see other people’s DIYs and see all the creativity that is out there so I’m very excited to be doing this “Guest DIY” and would love to do more if there’s anyone out there with a project they would like to share.

The DIYer for this project is Christine, who is an incredibly talented aesthetician, mom and photographer (so if these pictures are better than the photos in my regular posts, that’s why). She’s been a good friend of mine for a long time and she’s always impressing me with the things that she does (like making her own household cleaners and her own candles) so it’s no surprise that she was able to put this one together.

I actually LOVE this idea and I’m going to make one for myself as soon as I can go out and buy all the materials. Is there anything worse than having cables all around, cluttering up your life? Maybe scurvy… but aside from that, is there anything else? I don’t think so. In all seriousness though, I really hate exposed wires. They just make everything cluttered and messy.

Another great thing about having an accessible power bar is that (unlike me currently) you won’t have to be constantly running around trying to find a charger for your cell. I used to work at a cell phone store so you would think that I would have enough spare chargers (and trust me, I do) and yet I can never seem to find one when I need it. It aways moves around and then I can’t locate it when I need it. I suppose this would be a good time to use #firstworldproblems but it is honestly annoying.

So let’s get started!

  1. Buy your supplies. For this project you’ll need a pencil, a craft knife, a package of snap together grommets, a small box and a power bar. IMG_4577-2
  2. Carefully trace and cut out a hole for the plug to go through.

    3. Lay the grommets out on the box so you know how far apart you need to place them and mark the centre point for each hole. Using the tracer that comes with the grommets, trace the outlines for each of the holes and make sure that they are all even and level.

    4. Carefully cut out the holes with the craft knife and snap the grommets into place.

    5. Put the lid on the box and feed your cord through the grommet holes. IMG_4596-2

And that’s all there is to it. Pretty great, eh?
